Before and After Care Advice for Spray Tanning

Before Your Session:

Clothing: Please bring or wear loose clothing to your appointment, preferably in dark colours. If it's raining, wear a loose, long-sleeve top and loose pants, and bring an umbrella. On hot days, if your car seats are leather, cover them with a towel to prevent tan sweating off your legs.

Showering: If you need to shower before your appointment, do so at least 3 hours prior to the session. If you can't, you may rinse only but do not exfoliate.

Hair Removal and Exfoliation: Shave or wax and exfoliate your skin at least 24 hours before the appointment. This allows amino acids to reconstruct as DHA needs them to develop, and it gives your pores time to close, preventing the solution from entering them.

Exfoliation Routine: Exfoliate your skin daily for at least 2-4 days leading up to your appointment. Pay special attention to rough areas like the feet, heels, ankles, elbows, armpits, knuckles, and collarbones. A good scrub is essential to eliminate dead skin cells.

Avoid Certain Products: Do not use lotions, oil-based exfoliating products, gels, or waxing/shaving creams within 24 hours of your tan appointment, as they can leave residue on the skin that prevents proper development.

Skip Makeup and More: On the day of your appointment, avoid wearing makeup, cream, sunscreen, perfume, or deodorant.

Moisturize: Moisturize your skin in the days leading up to your session, but avoid doing so on the day of the appointment.

Attire During Session: You can choose to wear underwear/bras during the spray tan application, or we offer disposable g-strings and bras. It's recommended to wear baggy and dark clothes after the session.

After Your Session:

Wait to Shower: Wait for 2 to 8 hours (or overnight) before showering, depending on the spray tanning solution used. Your artist will advise you on the recommended wait time.

Avoid Sweat and Water: During the development period, avoid activities that cause sweating or contact with water/liquids. If it's raining outside, wear long and covering clothes.

No Cream or Makeup: Do not apply cream or makeup to your skin during the development period.

Sleeping in Tan: If your appointment is in the evening and you need to sleep in your tan, wear long clothes to prevent transfer.

Rinse Thoroughly: After the recommended development time, rinse your entire body and face thoroughly to remove the cosmetic bronzer (temporary layer) and prevent streaking. Rinse until the water is clear. For the first shower, avoid using soap.

Pat Dry: After showering, pat your skin dry gently. Avoid rubbing back and forth with your towel.

Moisturize Daily: Moisturize your skin daily with an appropriate lotion to extend the life of your tan.

Avoid Exfoliation: Do not exfoliate your skin for the duration of the tan. When the tan starts to fade, it’s essential to exfoliate the skin to remove the old spray tan residue.

Facial Cleansers: Use soft facial cleansers and avoid oily or exfoliating ones, as well as brushes.

Hair Removal: Avoid waxing areas where the solution has been applied. Delicate shaving may be done occasionally.

Minimize Sweat: Be mindful of activities that may cause excessive sweating, such as spending time in saunas, taking long baths or showers daily, and participating in activities that induce sweating. Excessive sweating can cause the product to fade faster.
